Since when did creativity become synonymous with RIGHT NOW SHOW US EVERYTHING, ALL OF IT. AND EXPLAIN ALL OF IT AND DEFEND EVERY POSSIBLE ANGLE FROM STRANGERS ABOUT WHY IT ISN’T SO.
What if we separated sharing our creations(ideas, projects, artwork) with the world with the time hook of it all having to happen right now or else? What if we slowed down?
Slower. Half that speed. Now half that speed.
Your relationship to an idea changes over time.
The problem: We’ve grossly collapsed the process of RECEIVING, DEVELOPING, PUBLISHING.
1-30: RECEIVE IT - Let come what may in relation to your creative genius
31-60: BE WITH IT - Enter into relationship with the ideas, lean in closer, notice things about it, back it up with your conviction.
61-90: RELEASE IT - You’re equipped by now to field feedback, pick up on energetic influence, and receive rejection on ideas you’ve been in relationship with for two months now. You’ve had time and space to back it and love on it. Love on you having it.
By the time you post something, you’ve already:
lived with it
questioned it
written about it
developed it
edited it
decided you stand behind it
scheduled it
had time to let it settle
And that third phase is not passive. It's actually an active period of openness and true willingness to engage with people outside of you about it. The external world isn't excluded from the creative process. It's just given its proper place in the sequence.
You are always:
RECEIVING from one notebook
↓
DEVELOPING + SCHEDULING another
↓
RELEASING + DISCUSSING another
But you don't have to emotionally inhabit all three modes at once. This system will encourage you to add a buffer in between conception and exposure.
A mother is not making love, while growing a child, while trying to figure out how to protect her baby in public.
She’s not even a mother during the act of making love. She wouldn’t have a baby to protect if not for growing the child itself. There is a season for each of these. She is an entirely different woman in each.
As an idea is stewarded out into the world, this too is true for you.
It’s the creative maturation process
The Experience:
TBD
The internet has trained us into:
Think → Post
Sometimes:
Feel → Post
Sometimes even:
Have an experience → immediately turn the experience into a public interpretation of the experience.
Your system says:
Receive → Live → Reflect → Develop → Prepare → Release → Listen.
If we post before we even know what we think about it, we’re more likely to decide how we feel about it based on the feedback we receive.
The Outcome:
More conviction in what you do
Less fear of rejection
Less dependence on external approval
A slow and steady process that is in integrity with the creative process
“Meeting Cait and experiencing her work has become one of my life's greatest gifts. She helped me slow down and remember I am whole, in every stage. Her thoughtful approach allowed me to understand exactly where I was blocked and care for that area as garden to be nourished rather a wall to be demolished.”
- Joel B.
“Cait took the time to really listen to what I was feeling, reflect it back to me in a way that made me feel seen and at home in my own life. She reminded me of the bigger picture and helped ground my energy back to a place of safety. There is something very special about the way Cait holds space and shares her wisdom.”
- Carley H.
“Cait made me feel comfortable and understood right away. It felt ok that I didn't have a real plan or goal to hand her with our session. It was a safe place to be a bit messy. I didn't have to come to her with a plan, just a desire to see what happens, and that was enough!”
- Mary D.
